Is your nose bent out of shape — or maybe it never quite fit your face? Rhinoplasty can enhance your appearance, boost your confidence, and even improve your breathing.
When to Consider Nose Surgery
Is Your Nose Bent Out of Shape?
People who consider nasal cosmetic surgery are motivated by a variety of very personal reasons — after all, your nose is your most prominent facial feature. Surgical nose reshaping — rhinoplasty, or a “nose job” — can enhance your appearance, boost your self-confidence, and even improve your health.
Through cosmetic rhinoplasty, Dr. Robinson can reshape your nose so it’s in proportion with your other features. Patients from all over Southern California also choose Dr. Robinson for reconstructive rhinoplasty — to improve breathing or correct an appearance caused by a birth defect, trauma, accident, or disease.
Dr. Ernest B. Robinson is a Board Certified Specialist with more than 20 years of experience serving patients from Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Laguna Hills and Santa Ana and across Southern California.
The Possibilities
What Rhinoplasty Can Achieve

Narrow or widen your nostril span
Adjust the angle between your nose and upper lip
Improve breathing capacity and nasal function
Correct issues caused by birth defects, trauma, or disease
01Consultation
Communicating Your Goals for This Procedure
During a consultation, you and Dr. Robinson will discuss in detail your motivation for considering rhinoplasty and your desired outcome — whether cosmetic, reconstructive, or both. After taking your complete medical history and examining the structure of your nose, he’ll discuss realistic expectations and describe the specific techniques he recommends.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Reshapes and refines the nose for improved proportions and facial harmony — addressing a prominent bump, wide nostrils, an overly broad bridge, or an undefined tip.
Reconstructive Rhinoplasty
Corrects functional or structural issues from a birth defect, trauma, accident, or disease — restoring both natural appearance and proper breathing function.
Detailed medical history review and nasal structure examination
Discussion of realistic expectations and surgical limitations
Specific surgical technique recommendations for your goals
Exploration of complementary procedures for full facial balance
Many patients combine rhinoplasty with chin implant surgery to improve the overall balance and proportion of the face — a combined approach that often delivers the most natural, harmonious outcome.
02Surgical Technique
Surgical Techniques to Achieve Your Desired Outcome
Rhinoplasty procedures typically take about two hours and are performed at Pacific Hills Surgery Center using local or general anesthesia. All primary incisions are made inside the nostrils and are not visible after surgery.
1
Anesthesia & Duration
Performed at Pacific Hills Surgery Center under local or general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes approximately two hours, depending on the complexity of your goals.
2
Internal Incisions
Dr. Robinson makes incisions inside your nostrils to access the nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissue — these interior incisions are completely hidden and not visible after surgery.
3
Delicate Reshaping
The nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissue are carefully reshaped to improve the external contour of your nose or repair its function, according to your pre-discussed surgical plan.
4
Nostril Reshaping (if applicable)
If your procedure involves reshaping the nostrils, tiny incisions are made at the outer base of your nose. When properly cared for and protected from sun, these fade completely over time.
5
Closure & Splinting
Nasal tissue is repositioned and incisions closed with stitches. A small custom-made splint is placed for approximately one week to protect the new structure and keep it properly positioned.
03Recovery
Recuperating After Your Nose Surgery
When your surgery is complete, Dr. Robinson places a small, custom-made splint on your nose to wear for about a week. Some patients also go home with nasal packing, removed at a follow-up within 24–48 hours. It’s normal to feel puffy in the first 24 hours, with slight bruising around the eyes, tenderness, mild headaches or minimal bleeding — all easily controlled with mild pain medication.
Wear the SplintA custom splint protects the nasal structure for about one week. Head ElevationKeep your head elevated to reduce swelling and speed healing. Sun ProtectionProtect incisions from sun so the lines fade completely. Rest & RecoverAvoid strenuous physical activity for several weeks.
First 24 Hours
Puffiness and some bruising around the eyes are normal. Nasal packing (if used) removed within 24–48 hours. Mild headaches and tenderness controlled with medication.
Day 4–5
Cleared to resume normal daily activities. Swelling and bruising reduce noticeably. Splint still in place for protection.
Week 1
Splint removed. Moderate exercise may be cleared. Most visible swelling has subsided. Continue avoiding strenuous activity and sun.
Month 1–3
Noticeable results as remaining swelling subsides. The new nasal contour becomes progressively more apparent.
Up to 1 Year
Final outcome fully revealed. All tissue has healed and the refined, natural-looking result is entirely visible.
04Results
Expected Results from This Procedure
The majority of swelling and bruising will progressively subside within a week or two, and you can expect noticeable results in as few as three months. Because tissue takes time to heal completely, it can take up to a year before you see the final outcome. Interior incisions are not visible after surgery, and any tiny outer incisions fade completely over time with proper sun protection — for a natural, proportionate nose that harmonizes with your other features.
A more proportionate nose in harmony with your facial features
Refined tip, bridge, or overall nasal size as planned
All interior incisions completely hidden — not visible after surgery
Outer incisions (if any) fade completely with proper sun protection
Noticeable improvement visible within 1–3 months
Improved breathing function (for reconstructive cases)
