Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to improve its form and function. Depending on your unique needs, it may involve altering the nasal bridge, refining the tip, narrowing the nostrils, or correcting internal structures to improve airflow. There are two main techniques — your surgeon determines the best approach based on your anatomy and goals.

Rhinoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity. The surgery generally lasts between one and three hours.

After the incisions are made, the underlying bone and cartilage are sculpted to achieve the desired shape. In some cases, cartilage grafts from the septum or ear add structure or support.

Once reshaping is complete, the skin is carefully redraped over the new framework and the incisions are closed.

A small splint is often applied to the nose to protect it during initial healing and to help maintain its new shape.
